Old West Museum

The Old West Museum – located within Frontier Park – provides a great collection ( over 60,000 artifacts) highlighting Cheyenne’s ties to ranching, rodeo and Frontier days.   The Museum is a short 1.5 mile drive or 30 minute walk from Governor’s Home down Carey Ave.  Alternatively, you can take the Cheyenne Trolley ( stops on the other side of the Capitol building).

See The Buffalo

If you are in Wyoming, you are in Bison territory – head out to Terry Bison Ranch ( just south of Cheyenne).

Depot Plaza

Cheyenne’s Depot Plaza hosts the historical Union Pacific’s Depot (a national landmark) complete with Museum, a brewery and restaurants, as well as a plaza on which events can be found year round.  A 15- 20 minute walk from Governor’s home – just head towards towards and beyond the Capitol down to the end of Capitol Avenue.

Get your Hat and Boots on....

A historical retail experience,  The Wrangler has been servicing the needs of rancher and cowboys with over 13,000 sq ft of western clothing, boots and hats since 1943.

Year Round Botanical Paradise

From the winter months through the fall and Summer, you can always find a wonderland at one of the nation’s finest botanical gardens showcasing plants, trees, flowers and shrubs from around the world . There is also the adjacent Paul Smith Children’s Village providing fun for the whole family. Located in Lion’s Park –  a 1.5 mile (4 minute) drive from Governor’s home (or a 30 minute walk).

Escape from the world of chains, box stores and strip malls – head  to Cheyenne’s old downtown to experience unique retail and restaurants  – from boutique shops to gun shops to a wide selection of dining and brewery options, you’ll find it all in downtown Cheyenne.

Visit the Capitol

Steps away from Governor’s Home, Wyoming’s Capitol building is a historic treasure and national landmark.  Recently refurbished, take a self-guided tour of the building and admire everything from the woodwork to the ceilings in this architectural masterpiece and home to Wyoming’s state politics.

Rodeo Action

There’s no escaping the identity of Cheyenne and Wyoming with Rodeo – nothing better defines the Western Spirit and Lifestyle as an event and there’s no better place to see one than Cheyenne.  From the ‘Daddy of them all’ ( Frontier Days) to local and state Rodeo competitions, Cheyenne offers many opportunities to catch the spirit of the West.

A few blocks away from Governor’s Home ( on the other side of the Capitol building) you’ll find the Wyoming State Museum – a treasure of exhibits on Wyoming ranging from Native Americans, to the varied landscapes, to mineral, art and history….A definite must see as a starting or ending point for your travels in Wyoming.
